Kids at the Crossroads "100 x 25 Campaign"
Kids at the Crossroads is working hard to keep its doors open in 2015 and beyond. We need stable funding to continue our work with low-income children in the Carmen Alto district of Ayacucho, Peru. Our mission is to help break the cycle of poverty in which these children live by preparing and empowering them to become productive, responsible and self-sufficient adults and to equip them with the tools and skills they need to make healthy and productive choices as they reach critical crossroads in their life.
Kids at the Crossroads' Acuchimay Center is open 5 days a week and provides approximately 240 days of regular activities each year. The goal of the “100x25 Campaign” is to enlist 100 supporters who will commit to donating just $25 per month --$300 annually--to Kids at the Crossroads! Each $25- monthly donation pays for a child in need to participate in the KATC program for a month. And 100 generous donors, can make it possible for 100 children to attend regular KATC activities and benefit from the services KATC provides.
So, what does a child participating in the KATC program get for just over $1 a day? vReinforcement classes in math and communication with a certified teacher; vHomework study hall with staff, resource library and other materials; vSupervised access to the internet, and unlike the local internet cafes, there is no access to violent internet games or pornographic websites; vA hearty snack including a sandwich and fruit; vBasic school supplies at the beginning of the school year; vYear-round assistance with school supplies, personal hygiene items, and even shoes and clothing by using attendance points to shop in our in-house store; vMonthly workshops with psychologists, healthcare or social workers, or other professionals; vArts and crafts projects, monthly movie day, and organized recreational activities; vSpecial events such as holiday lunches, picnics, fieldtrips and a Christmas party with gifts; vA children’s library with more than 500 books…the community library had just 6 books in its children’s section before it closed several years ago; vEducational and developmental toys and games; vProgram supplies such as pencils, erasers, colors, paper, worksheets, and crafts materials; vA clean, safe and supervised place to spend their after-school hours; vEncouragement, hugs, attention, and even discipline—things often lacking at home!
In addition to the regular program activities and services, KATC also visits rural areas and villages several times a year providing assistance with school supplies and sharing a little holiday joy and treats with hundreds of children living in particularly extreme circumstances outside of Ayacucho. Please act today to help us keep our doors open. And, please, encourage friends, neighbors, colleagues, classmates, family and others to join in this worthy endeavor. Help us reach our 100 x 25 goal…100 pledges to give $25- a month or $300- annually to Kids at the Crossroads.
